9. Professional Development Opportunities for Health and Physical Education Instructors

Quality professional development is one of the major components to impacting quality of instruction and student learning. Schools generally provide mandated professional development (suicide prevention, blood born pathogens, etc.) within the district, however the majority of content specific in-service training for instructors of health and physical education is provided out of district.

Key Findings:

  • The majority of professional development for certified Health and Physical Education Instructors is provided by out-of-district workshops.

We collaborate with major organizations and agencies to provide a cadre of opportunities throughout the state. A targeted emphasis of professional development opportunities has been initiated to address the most critical areas of need. Workshops are scheduled in fitness education and assessment, specifically Fitnessgram/Physical Best, Adventure, Coordinated School Health Programs, Health Resources, and administrator support.
